Microsoft Teams- Create Private Channels

Create Private Channels on Microsoft Teams

Private channels in Microsoft Teams create focused spaces for collaboration within your teams. Only the users on the team who are owners or members of the private channel can access the channel. Anyone, including guests, can be added as a member of a private channel as long as they are already members of the team.

You might want to use a private channel if you want to limit collaboration to those who have a need to know or if you want to facilitate communication between a group of people assigned to a specific project, without having to create an additional team to manage.

How to Create a Private Channel?

1.Expand (…) button to expand more options

2.Select “Add Channel”

3.Name your channel and add a description

4.Under privacy settings, select “Private” if you wish to create a private channel. If you select “Standard”, all members from your Team project will be automatically added to your new channel.

5.Invite specific members from your team project to the new private channel. Then you may also assign their roles as “Owner“ or “Member”.

*Note: Only members can chat in this private channel and share files in the private file folder. The private channel is not visible and not accessible to other members in the teams at all
